You CAN have it all and you can have it all NOW!

You CAN have it all and you can have it all NOW!

There’s that famous quote from Oprah that says “you can have it all, but not all at once” and while I love my gal Oprah on this one I’m going to have to disagree because I believe we can have it all and we can have it all NOW. Wanna know how? Well today’s your lucky day 🙂 I’ve never bought into the notion that we need to sacrifice one goal for another when it comes to the stuff that matters and at many stages in my life I’ve successfully juggled the attainment of multiple bigass goals. In my early 20’s I juggled full-time tertiary education an hours drive away from my home (goal to better myself and achieve a tertiary education after leaving school at 14, 7 years previously), worked multiple shifts at the local pub (goal – support myself financially while at school) while at the same time learning to become a pilot (goal – umm…to be a pilot!) and keeping my ass in shape (goal – to look and feel good). In my late 20’s I juggled single parenthood with a brand new baby and a toddler  (goal – to do it well and not scar my kids for life!), my martial arts schools (goal – to grow a successful business), complete my personal training qualifications (goal – to add this to my business to increase my income) while at the same time getting my ass back in shape after childbirth (goal – to get my ass back in shape after childbirth!). My 30’s were not much different (though the goals were) and more of the...
Feeding Your Courage Dog

Feeding Your Courage Dog

Yesterday I listened to a talk by a man called Mark Divine who’s an ex navy seal with a training program called Sealfit. In this particular video he was talking about mental toughness to overcome physical challenge, now this is right up my alley, this man speaks in a language I understand so I was riveted and there was a ton of gold in that video but one line jumped out at me and I knew I had to play with it. He spoke of “feeding your courage dog”. How cool is that concept??!! The premise (I’m adding Mark’s quotes in amongst mine here) that when be begin to suffer we isolate the pain and re-direct our minds. As soon as we start suffering , we note it and then we redirect our mind to something that’s going to be powerful. Once we can shift our focus in a positive direction away from the source of the suffering all of a sudden the suffering goes away or is greatly diminished (end my Mark / Michelle mashup). This is a concept I’m very familiar with. I learned it on the mats one gruelling training session at a time knowing that to quit wasn’t an option so I just had to find a way through and for me that was always focusing on the outcome, focusing on my ability to absorb more pain than anyone else, my ability to keep going when others quit. It’s the part of me I love most. But when I heard Mark speak those words yesterday my thought’s immediately turned to you and how I could...
5 Essential Traits For Becoming A Kickass Female Entrepreneur

5 Essential Traits For Becoming A Kickass Female Entrepreneur

The word Entrepreneur is bandied about willy nilly these days and everyone wants to be one….and for good reason! When we think of the word “entrepreneur” is conjures up all sorts of cool and exciting images…you know the ones…sitting next to the ocean with a latte and a laptop and calling it your office, funky new gadgets, luxury cars, cool clothes and a life of freedom and excitement. This is all well and good but often the actual “doing” part of entrepreneurship is overlooked in the rush to just “be” one! It takes nerve, guts, commitment and plain old hard work to live the life of an entrepreneur because the ups and downs rival that of a bigass roller coaster! If you’re game that roller coaster ride will be the ride of your life, one you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Let me share with you 5 essentials for cracking it in the world of entrepreneurship. 1: Unwavering passion and belief in what you are delivering. You can’t half ass this stuff because your mettle will be tested over and over and over again. Your ideas and concepts will be continually challenged and if you don’t have 100% belief and 100% passion for your venture you will spend far too much time second-guessing yourself and this will hold you back. 2: Keep and open mind. I was queen of saying NO! No, it isn’t done that way. No, it can’t be done that way. No, this simply isn’t accepted in our industry. No, no-one has ever done it this way. The minute I stopped saying NO and...
What to do with that pesky second passion that refuses to abate…

What to do with that pesky second passion that refuses to abate…

I had an interesting conversation with a Martial Arts Instructor (and school owner) earlier this week over coffee. As always I LOVE talking about “the good old days” and could do so till the cows come home. Despite the fact that this was the first time we’d met already we felt like old friends. That’s just the way it is in Martial Arts, especially if you’ve been in it for a couple of decades. Typically the conversation turned to me teaching or owning another school one day. The potential to partner with this particular instructor is tempting as is being amongst it all again in a bigger way. But for now (I never say never) and for the foreseeable future this is simply not an option. Once up on a time I’d be led by my (sometimes momentary) passion, throw caution to the wind and dive right in. This has not always worked in my favour! These days I’m crystal clear about what I want my life to be about, where I’m headed and what I want that to look like. Another MA School is not a part of that vision. No matter how much I’d love it. So……I asked the question “how can I be involved but not committed?” and I came up with an idea that excites me!! Later this year I’ll be running a day event for women and teens that will be a combination of training, mindset and empowerment work. Essentially much of the stuff I speak about in my first book “Bulletproof Confidence & A Kickass Body – through martial arts training and principles”. I’m...
More about my writing process.

More about my writing process.

I love a blog request! Today I’m answering a questions posed to me on Facebook about how I feel before I sit down to write and then how I feel once I’m done. It’s a great question because I think there’s a misconception that you must feel “in flow” before you hit the keyboard but that ain’t so. The truth is some days I’m chaffing at the bit to sit down and write because the ideas are coming thick and fast and other days I procrastinate over sitting my ass down because I’m thinking “I got noth’n”!! The days I’m in flow and full of ideas I’m excited to sit down and write. I’m organising my thoughts as I get ready for the day (the shower is where most of my ideas are born, don’t ask me why) and thinking about the structure of the piece. By the time I sit down to write I’m relaxed and focused and get right into it. These are the days I pump out thousands of words at a time and when I’m done I’m mentally exhausted but happy. These comments I posted to Facebook a few days ago probably best sum up the day’s I don’t feel as anything at all is going to come out! 2,188 words…thank-you very much and good-night! Did NOT think I had it in me today. Peeps writing is not a “when you feel like it” type deal. It’s totally about discipline. If you waited for the moon and the star to align every time you wanted to write it would never happen. Today I had my...

Please do me a favour and DO NOT fake it till you make it….

Wow, I’m going to try to rein this post in a little despite the fact I’m SEETHING. A post just came through my newsfeed by a woman I’ve chatted with a number of times and who went on to purchase one of my lower end programs. She couldn’t afford coaching or one of my higher end programs. Her post was promoting a new business page. That page was promoting herself as a coach for women who want to make 1 million dollars online. Interesting. Interesting because I know for sure this is not something this woman has achieved for herself. In fact her own marketing message is all over the place and she doesn’t even have a website (or a landing page or anything of substance online). But she’s coaching women how to make a million bucks…… online??!! I’m seething because while I’m happy for her (or anyone) to knock herself out building a business based on rainbows and unicorns I’m NOT happy for her to take hard earned cash from women who are putting their $$ and faith in her to get them to a million bucks. Even though she’s never done it herself. Even though she has zero online presence. Someone will invest in her. And she won’t be able to deliver on promise because she simply does not know how. And that poor sucker will be worse off than before. I’ve singled this lady out because she rolled on by on my newsfeed but she’s certainly not alone. I see it time and time and time again. It doesn’t always make me this angry but this...
