16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 16

16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 16

Lesson number 16. You know who you are! Ta daaaa….the grand finale and I hope you agree that I’ve saved the best till last. If you were expecting some sort of kickass social media strategy or another way to scale your business I promise you THIS is far more important than any of the “details” or “strategies” you need to find next level success in your business. I’ll tell you why….. Because EVERYTHING starts with you. Everything. And so unless you truly know what makes you tick how can you ever really, REALLY know that what you’re chasing is going to FULFIL you? How will you know when you really need to rest and take pause and when you’re ok to push, push, push? And what about knowing when it’s time to walk away? Or change direction? How to show up on social? The boundaries you need to keep in place around your work / life balance? And really, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You’ll often hear me say “give yourself permission to want what you REALLY want”…regardless of how how far fetched that dream might seem you MUST allow yourself to want what you truly want. And if you don’t know yourself the way I’d like you to then it’s near on impossible to know what that is. I know what makes me tick and I have done for a long time now. My business decisions are based around an intimate knowledge I have of that thing between my ears. I know what will stress me….what will exhaust me….piss me off….bore me…..drain me. And I also...

16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 15

Lesson number 15. Be careful what you invite into your world via social I’m sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to Phuket and killing time scrolling through my newsfeed and here’s what I noticed. SO many people complaining about what a crappy year 2016 was and how they can’t wait for it to be over. Lot’s of people investing way too much energy on thinking about and talking about celebrities who have passed away and using this as another reason why 2016 was sooooo bad. And lot’s of puppies  I’m (thankfully) seeing lot’s of puppies. I think 2016 was INCREDIBLE. Was it all smooth sailing…? Far from it! In the last 12 months my daughter was hospitalised twice and my son was in a number (yup, more than one) of car accidents and lost his licence after losing all of this points…twice (he’s a slow learner like his mum!). I moved to a wonderful new town but AWAY from everything I loved and that was familiar to me…and I was lonely, very lonely for a long time. I missed my friends and I missed my kids and I missed my old gym, my favourite coffee place…the whole lot. When I moved my kids no longer lived with me and I struggled…I struggled A LOT..in fact it led me to getting some help from a wonderful Psychologist who helped me to move through that. The impact this had on me was HUGE. I suffered depression for a few months and had to throw every trick in the book at it to feel my usually happy self again. I was...

16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 14

Lesson number 14. You have to learn how to figure the tech stuff out I can’t even begin to tell you how many entrepreneurs I know who are held hostage and held back by their inability to handle even the most basic of technical tasks. If you have a tech handicap you really are behind the 8 ball because you can’t be as agile in your business as you need to be. If you run a bricks and mortar business and think you’re exempt your not because these days ALL businesses are online and require even some basic tech skills. I can have an idea for a program and have it selling within the hour because I know how to build a web page, create the visuals I need for that web page, create a paypal button and add it to my page, hook up the paypal to my automated email system, create and schedule automated welcome emails, create a facebook group and the gorgeous banner that sits at the top of the group. I’ve clients who have had the idea for a program and it can take them days or even WEEKS, and at it’s worse MONTHS to get this stuff done. I had one particular client who was very, very challenged technically and it took her 9 months to learn how to send an email newsletter and I don’t think she ever got around to creating a blog post – that had a huge impact on her lack of progress and it was frustrating for both of us. If I can go from idea to market within...

16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 13

Lesson number 13. Everyone has fear and doubt. You might think that those of us who have experienced the level of success your’e reaching for have it all together and that the moment success arrives fear disappears. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact the more successful you become the more there is to lose. My whole life I’d been able to climb one mountain after another BECAUSE of that fact that I quite honestly had nothing to lose…not a thing, because ANY step forward was always going to be better than where I was. When they’re aren’t many eye’s on you, you feel as though you can afford to make mistakes…do a half assed launch that thing and it doesn’t take off (as you expected) and so what….no-body noticed anyway. But launch with a shit tonne of eyes on you and the fear grows. Invest bigger money than you ever have in your life in an idea and it doesn’t pan out and you’re not out of pocket your usual “time and shoestring investment”. So the fear ramps up the more you have to lose. The upside though is that if you get to the success you’re reaching for this means you’ve gotten good at dealing with fear…..with keeping it in its place and moving forward regardless. And so when fear raises its head you’re a old hand at keeping things in perspective and moving through it. It’s imperative that you maintain an attitude of “what have I got to lose?” even when you have A LOT to lose. It’s important because in order to release...

16 Epic Lessons I Learned in 2016 – Part 12

Lesson number 12.  Keep showing up even when no-one’s watching! With regards to social media activity I’m often asked the question “do I keep showing up everyday even if no-one’s watching?”. My answer is always a resounding YES!! For 5 main reasons…… The first reason is that you never know when the tide will turn and people will start tuning in and you don’t want to miss it! There are countless examples of highly successful entrepreneurs who continued to show up for months or even YEARS despite the fact that no-one was watching them as they plugged away and then the breakthrough came…had they quit they would never have achieved the levels of success they have today. The second reason is that your business should be built around such a strong mission that you absolutely MUST get your message out into the world DAILY….it should be that you are so passionately moved to inspire your tribe that you find it difficult NOT to want to share your message and help them further along their journey every single day. The third reason is that when you show up every day you’ll find your creativity is off the charts, you’re constantly in a state of flow and ideas come to you effortlessly. Most people worry about having enough content to sustain daily Facebook Lives (for example) when I’ve found the complete opposite to be true…the more I’m Live the thicker and faster the content comes to me day in day out. The fourth reason is that simply get better at what it is you do, the more I deliver content the...
